Riesling

Rating: 90 Wilfred Wong of Wine.com

This wine is from Mosel, Germany where it all began for Riesling. This is a classic Riesling at a really great price. It’s a dry wine which means it doesn't have any sweetness to it. It has notes of floral, ripe apple, green apple, and mineral. Pair with roasted seafood, lightly seasoned chicken or pork.

Riesling is produced in a range of dry to sweet. It's important to identify the sweetness levels when selecting your Riesling. Find out more about how to identify the sweetness levels of Riesling in this post.

The cool climate of Columbia Valley is ideal for Riesling. This wine is made of grapes from different vineyard sites around the region. The warmer sites produce fruit with tropical flavors and the cooler sites produce fruit with pear and lemon-lime notes.

It is an off-dry white wine. This means it has some residual sugar. The winery recommends pairing with pasta and rice dishes, grilled fish, and an array of cheese.

Sauvignon Blanc

Rating: 90 Wine Spectator

When you want a great Sauvignon Blanc, look to New Zealand. This one from Marlborough has notes of passion fruit, pineapple, peach and key lime along with its signature crisp acidity.

Consider a winter pairing of seafood like scallops and clams prepared in an herbed tomato sauce. It will stand up to foods with a bit of spicy heat too.

Firestone Vineyard is situated 26 miles from the coast. This means the winds off the ocean funnel into the valley creating a cool climate that extends the growing season for this Sauvignon Blanc.

This wine has tropical notes such as pineapple and grapefruit along with the typical green notes like cut lawn (just means it will taste refreshing). Pair this Sauvignon Blanc with an herbed chicken and asparagus risotto.

Chardonnay

Rating: 91 James Suckling

Black Cabra (goat) are found in the Argentine Andes. One of the goats took a liking to one of the winery workers and kept coming around watching them work. They decided to name the wine after their friendly goat.

This Chardonnay has notes of peach, pear, and hints of vanilla (means it was matured in oak barrels). This Chardonnay pairs well with roasted chicken and mushroom risotto. Or pair easily with salmon, tuna, or pork.

Rating: 91 James Suckling

You'll find great value wines from Argentina and this one is no exception. You'll find notes of tropical fruits, apples, and peaches. It's medium- to full-bodied with bright acidity and a creamy texture. This wine matured in stainless steel tanks not in oak barrels. It won't have the vanilla notes that is common in Chardonnay. If you don't care for oaky Chardonnay, then definitely try this one!

Pair this wine with light fare like fish, or herb and buttered chicken. Delish!

Best White Wines Under $15 Wrap Up

Enjoy some of these great quality white wines from around the world. You won’t break the bank and they work well with a variety of Winter meals.

And make sure to warm up the wine a bit, if it’s been stored in the refrigerator. This will help the wine to open up and reveal all of its wonderful flavors and aromas.

One last thing, I’ve included links to these wines on Wine.com. If you link there, scroll down to find a wealth of information. They include notes from the winemaker about the wine, notes about the region where it’s produced, and notes about the varietal (ie. chardonnay, etc.). I really love how much information they share with wine consumers.
